A Call and Agenda for Pastor-Theologians

When I was in seminary, Gordon-Conwell stated that their aim was to train "Scholar-Pastors" and set them loose on the church and the world. We are in a day when the church is more and more in need of pastors who take theological study more and more seriously and raise the bar of biblical and theological comprehension higher and higher for their people. Consider the Gospel Coalition's recent call: A Call and Agenda for Pastor-Theologians – The Gospel Coalition Blog: Personally, I am a long long way off from filling such a tall order as  Douglas Sweeney presents here in his 15 point call "to promote a reformation in the theological life and work of the church --- for Jesus' sake." Nevertheless, I would set these 15 points before my heart and mind and before my co-workers and colleagues and say, "Alright, we may not be able to research and write in such a manner as to impact and influence the Church at large in the way of theological reformation and revival but we can aspire to be faithful to do so within the parameters God has entrusted to us." Aim higher, brothers, aim ever higher!
